NCAA Tournament's Dance List

INDIANAPOLIS – Slowly, the number of schools that have not made the men’s NCAA tournament dwindles. But it will be going up again soon as several reclassifying schools become eligible for the NCAA tournament.

Two schools, Grand Canyon and Hartford, secured their first-ever NCAA tournament bid in 2021. That leaves 37 schools out of 350 official Division I members that have yet to make an appearance in the tournament. There were 298 schools in Division I 1991-92.

Eight reclassifying schools will be eligible for the tournament as they meet official requirements over the next few years, so that number will be well over 40 by 2026.

The hunt for a spot in the tournament is still on for Army, The Citadel, St. Francis (NY), and William and Mary, which have been eligible for every NCAA tournament played.

Here is an updated list of the last appearance and total number of NCAA tournament appearances (in parentheses) for each eligible school. Schools with the most appearances are listed first, and conference affiliation is as of the 2021-22 season. The eight reclassifying schools are not included, as they have not yet been eligible to play in the tournament.
