THE DOMINATION RANKINGS

Definition of Domination Rankings: the ranking of all categories of college basketball - women, men, wheelchair, D1, D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO . . . - together (based on record, average margin of victory [MOV], and a super secret formula) by the arguably insane folks at College Basketball Times as part of our non-profit mission of equality. Make sense? Uh, not really Dave. Then take a look below and I think you'll get it. And you might even get a few laughs. You mean the rankings are a joke, Dave? No, not at all. I did, however, provide some hopefully humorous comments. Though if you feel compelled to laugh at the rankings, well, that works for me too.
Sincerely,
Dave Barend - Grand Poobah

PS - Just to be clear "MOV" in the below rankings stands for average margin of victory. Yes, eventually I'll change that to the more sensical AMOV.
Top 65 Domination Rankings - 4/3/2023
1. Alabama Crimson Tide (Women's Wheelchair - 18-0 - MOV 43.51) This team remains undefeated. That's because they are the most dominant college hoops team. And because they haven't had a game in about 3 weeks.
2. Nova Southeastern Sharks (Men's D2 - 36-0 - MOV 25.01) They named their mascot Razor the Shark. Apparently Shark alone doesn't exude enough fear.
3. Ashland Eagles (Women's D2 - 37-0 - MOV 23.89) No team in all of college basketball had more wins than the D2 champs. And I may be going out on a limb here, but I'm pretty confident that no team will ever have less losses.
4. Transylvania Pioneers (Women's D3 - 33-0 - MOV 23.92) In leading her team to the D3 title, Madison Kellione shot well. I think she was helped by not putting her own hand in front of her face.
5. Morton College Panthers (Women's NJCAA D2 - 34-1 - MOV 42.93) I've become a big Morton College fan this season. And I'm going to stay that way even though I've learned that the school is in no way connected to Mort Sahl. (Yes, it's 2023 and I just made a Mort Sahl reference.)
6. CCBC Essex Knights (Women's NJCAA D2 - 36-1 - MOV 37.57)
When people learn that CCBC Essex is in Baltimore they all seem to have the same inexplicable response: "I loved The Wire."
7. Michigan Wolverines (Manager Games - 8-0 - MOV 25.5)
In the championship game, they knocked off Notre Dame, my wife's alma mater. So I feel compelled to write the following: it's hard for me to be happier than when ND loses. Go Blue!!
8. Palomar College Comets (Women's CCCAA - 31-1 - MOV 39.59)
The school's Wikipedia page shows a police car parked in front of the cafeteria. I guess at Palomar there's some pretty intense food fights.
9. Rochester C & T Yellow Jackets (Women's NJCAA D3 - 27-1 - MOV 36.63)
The C stands for Community, but I thought it was for Communications. Then I realized that doesn't make sense. Kids these days don't communicate.
10. Nevada Wolf Pack (Women's Club - 11-0 - MOV 24.72) They are the only team in the top 10 still playing. And they have a long way to go. Their championship is in Erie, PA.
11. Valparaiso Beacons (Manager Games - 6-0 - MOV 25.5)
12. Christopher Newport Captains (Women's D3 - 31-1 - MOV 31.48) 13. South Carolina Gamecocks (Women's D1 - 36-1 - MOV 28.54)
14. Lane CC Titans (Women's NWAC - 32-1 - MOV 28.19) 15. St. Joe's Hawks (Manager Games - 6-0 - MOV 20.1)

Top 70 Domination Rankings - 3/27/2023
1. Alabama Crimson Tide (Women's Wheelchair - 18-0 - MOV 43.51) These women have now rolled all the way to #1. (See what I did there with rolled? Yeah Dave, it was pretty obvious.) Unfortunately, I don't think they can get any higher. But imagine the press if they do. HEADLINE: "Alabama Women's Wheelchair - First Team Ever Ranked Higher Than #1!"
2. Christopher Newport Captains (Women's D3 - 31-0 - MOV 32.66) According to Encyclopedia Virginia, Christopher Newport University is named after Christopher Newport. So just to clarify, it's not George Washington University that is named after Christopher Newport, it's Christopher Newport University.
3. South Carolina Gamecocks (Women's D1 - 36-0 - MOV 29.45) The team made the Final 4 and then cut down the net. An amazing sight. Though it might have been even more exciting if they tried to cut down the shot clock. 4. Nova Southeastern Sharks (Men's D2 - 36-0 - MOV 25.01) The Sharks gave up 101 points in the championship game. A disappointing way to end the season. Well, had it not been for the fact that that they scored an incredible 111 points. Congrats to the champs.
5. Ashland Eagles (Women's D2 - 36-0 - MOV 24.25) The school's motto is "Accent on the Individual." Ok, but on which letter? The I?, The N? The D? . . . 6. Transylvania Pioneers (Women's D3 - 32-0 - MOV 24.52) #2 Christopher Newport plays #6 Transylvania on Saturday. I don't know who's going to win. But I do know one thing for sure: if you are looking at these rankings after Saturday, they are wrong.
7. Morton College Panthers (Women's NJCAA D2 - 34-1 - MOV 42.93) I'm nearly certain that this is the only Morton that doesn't prefer to be called Morty.
8. Michigan Wolverines (Manager Games - 5-0 - MOV 36.8) What's going to be harder for this team? Winning 3 games in a row this weekend to claim the Manager Games championship. Or suppressing the urge to immediately set up chairs at the start of every time out.
9. UMass Minutewomen (Women's Club - 10-0 - MOV 31.9)
All club sports at UMass are chartered by the student government. That has led some unique campaign signs like, "Vote For Jean. She'll Save Your Team!" and "Screw Crew. Don't Vote For Drew!"
10. CCBC Essex Knights (Women's NJCAA D2 - 36-1 - MOV 37.57)
The CCBC Essex Women just won the NJCAA D2 Tournament. And to think they weren't even ranked in the pre-season. By who? Us.
11. Palomar College Comets (Women's CCCAA - 31-1 - MOV 39.59)
12. Nevada (Women's Club - 11-0 - MOV 24.72) 13. Rochester Com & Tech Yellow Jackets (Women's NJCAA D3 - 27-1 - MOV 36.63)

Top 70 Domination Rankings - 3/20/2023
1. Morton College Panthers (Women's NJCAA D2 - 32-0 - MOV 46.46) The school was established in 1924, but a campus wasn't created until 1975. So I guess from 1924-1975 Morton solely offered online classes.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (Women's Wheelchair - 18-0 - MOV 43.51) These women amazingly became the sole national champs on Alabama's campus. And they reigned supreme until the men's wheelchair team obtained that same title - a mere week later.
3. Christopher Newport Captains (Women's D3 - 31-0 - MOV 32.66) I keep providing fun facts about Christopher Newport and these women keep winning. But some probably still think there is no correlation. New fun fact: Christopher Newport was born in Limehouse. And yet he was never a fan of margaritas.
4. South Carolina Gamecocks (Women's D1 - 34-0 - MOV 30.39) Looks like Coach Staley might become the new face of AFLAC. Here's hoping she becomes the sound of AFLAC too. 5. Wabash Valley Warriors (Women's NJCAA D1 - 30-1 - MOV 48.26) Wabash Valley's logo has a spear with triangular stone head. Pretty cool. But the only person who could possibly be the mascot is Ferb's friend Phineas.
6. Nova Southeastern Sharks (Men's D2 - 34-0 - MOV 25.99) Nova Southeastern is located in Davie, Fla, also the home of Bushwood C. C. What's Bushwood C. C, you ask? That's the country club in Caddyshack? What's Caddyshack, you ask? That's the funniest movie ever made. How old am I, you ask?
7. Ashland Eagles (Women's D2 - 34-0 - MOV 25.99) Assistant Coach Jenna Kotas has been named to the WBCA's list of "30 Under 30" for the 4th year in a row. Incredible, but that comes with a lot of pressure to win it next year. Otherwise everyone will know she's 30. 8. Transylvania Pioneers (Women's D3 - 32-0 - MOV 24.52) The school's original structure was a log cabin, which severely limited the ability to bounce pass.
9. Michigan Wolverines (Manager Games - 5-0 - MOV 36.8) The Michigan Mangers team made it to the Sweet 16 by beating Marquette with 55% of the vote. Of the vote? Yeah, Manager Games uses voting to determine the Final 4. So this begs the question: Could the Michigan Managers beat Biden and Trump?
10. Davidson-Davie C. C. Storm (Men's NJCAA D2 - 33-0 - MOV 21.66)
Last week Jahlen King scored 24 points off the bench. Impressive. Though it would have been even more impressive if he did so on the bench.
11. UMass Minutewomen (Women's Club - 10-0 - MOV 31.9)
12. CCBC Essex Knights (Women's NJCAA D2 - 33-1 - MOV 39.98)
13. Palomar College Comets (Women's CCCAA - 31-1 - MOV 39.59)
14. Johnson C. C. C. Lady Cavaliers (Women's NJCAA D2 - 32-1 - MOV 35.03)
15. Rochester Com & Tech Yellow Jackets (Women's NJCAA D3 - 27-1 - MOV 36.63)
16. Valparaiso Beacons (Manager Games - 6-0 - MOV 25.5)
17. Orange County Community College Colts (Men's NJCAA D2 - 29-1 - MOV 31.00)
18. Nevada (Women's Club - 9-0 - MOV 20.2)
19. Michigan State (Women's Club - 6-0 - MOV 21.0)
20. Lane CC Titans (Women's NWAC - 31-1 - MOV 28.45)

Top 80 Domination Rankings - 3/14/2023
1. Morton College Panthers (Women's NJCAA D2 - 30-0 - MOV 45.48) Two words: Mia Simpson. Though I can’t remember if they were said by Bart or Homer. 2. Alabama Crimson Tide (Women's Wheelchair - 18-0 - MOV 43.51) While leading her team to another National Championship, Alabama’s Mary Silberman went 1-1 from 3 point range. Yeah, that doesn’t seem like a big deal - until you realize she did it sitting down. 3. Christopher Newport Captains (Women's D3 - 30-0 - MOV 33.59) I’d like it known that when I committed to providing a fun fact about Captain Christopher Newport every week these women made the top 10, I did not know something: they are incredible. So here goes again: Christopher Newport once commanded a ship called the Little John. And I believe that led to a life long search for a ship called the Adequate Sized Commode. 4. South Carolina Gamecocks (Women's D1 - 32-0 - MOV 30.33) Despite what the NCAA Tournament bracket says, I’m quite confident that South Carolina will not play Norfolk State in the first round. They will kill Norfolk State in the first round. 5. Wabash Valley Warriors (Women's NJCAA D1 - 30-1 - MOV 48.26) I wonder if their opponents ever taunt them by saying, “Warriors, come out and play.” Why do I wonder this? Because I’m old. 6. Nova Southeastern Sharks (Men's D2 - 32-0 - MOV 26.62) Nova Southeastern is "the most dominant men’s team in all of college hoops." A truly great title, especially since it doesn’t reveal that there are 5 women’s teams more dominant. 7. Ashland Eagles (Women's D2 - 33-0 - MOV 25.84) 32 different states have towns named Ashland. Luckily someone finally came up with the idea for fire departments. 8. Central Methodist Eagles (Women's NAIA - 35-0 - MOV 23.93) The Central Methodist Eagles. Huh. And all this time I thought eagles were Presbyterian.
