Albany Update- Some Facts and Some Funny

The University at Albany men’s basketball program opened its 2024-25 season on Monday, November 4, with a 67-59 loss at Army’s Christl Arena.  The Great Danes were led by guard Byron Joshua, who scored 15 points and added two steals, two assists, and two rebounds.  The Danes shot 22-60 (36.7%) from the field, including a dismal 4-24 (16.7%) from behind the arc.  After the game, Marshall Amar’e (1-9 from the field, 0-6 from three) and Aaron Reddish (2-9 from the field, 0-4 from three) each changed their major to Bricklaying.

The Danes bounced back in their next game, an 89-69 victory over the Division III Oneonta Red Dragons on Albany’s home court (the Broadview Center).  Albany only led by two points at halftime, but the Danes opened the second half with a 22-5 run and Oneonta never challenged thereafter.  DeMarr Langford Jr. led the Danes with 18 points, and he also tallied four rebounds and a block.  Albany shot 38-80 (47.5%) from the field, but again struggled from three-point land, making only 6 of 23 (26.1%) attempts from deep.  There have been no further reports of players changing their major at this time, but rumor has it that the team members are considering joining the International Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers No. 2 NY/VT.

The Danes (1-1) play at Dartmouth (2-0) at 5 pm on Wednesday (11/13) and then host Siena (2-0) at 7 pm on Saturday (11/16).
