Campbell finished at 10-8 in conference play and ended their season with a loss in the 2nd Round of the CAA Conference Tournament to Delaware. The Fighting Camels had a solid season and the program is headed in the right direction. If Campbell brings back the majority of their starters they will enter the 2025-26 season as one of the favorites in the CAA. But who are we kidding with the transfer portal opening on Monday March 24th – the Fighting Camels might be temporarily known as the Fighting Camel or even worse No Camel – right? Hampton finished at 8-10 in conference play. The Pirates just defeated Northeastern in the 2nd Round of the CAA Conference Tournament to advance to the Quarterfinals against UNC Wilmington. The teams split a pair of games this season with Hampton defeating the Seahawks a few short weeks ago to avenge a loss back in January. The Pirates hope to win the rubber match in Washington, DC on Sunday evening March 9th. The good news for both teams is they shouldn’t have to deal with much DC traffic on a Sunday evening – well hopefully not – lol.
Monmouth finished 10-8 in Conference Play and has won four of their last five games including a win over Hofstra in the 2nd Round of the CAA Conference Tournament. The Hawks next opponent is Charleston on Sunday evening 3/9 in the Quarterfinals. Monmouth defeated Charleston in mid January in their only meeting this Season. The Hawks need to start fast and play well as the Cougars will be out for revenge. Wait – the Hawks against the Cougars – it sounds like it could turn into a cat fight – I mean an animal fight – that is more politically correct – right? North Carolina A&T finished 3-15 in Conference Play and lost their CAA Conference Tournament 1st Round game to Hofstra. The Aggies now have a long offseason to figure out what went wrong this Season and prepare for the 2025-26 campaign. North Carolina A&T will most certainly lose some players to the transfer portal and add some new players as well. The big question is will the Aggies be changing conferences as well? I mean don’t all of the Division 1 Men’s Teams change conferences on a yearly basis now. No - It just seems like they do – lol.
Stony Brook finished at 4-14 in Conference Play and lost their CAA Conference Tournament 1st Round game to Delaware. The Seawolves put up a valiant fight before succumbing to the Blue Hens by the final score of 80-76. Put up a valiant fight – I should hope so – the Team’s nickname is Seawolves – lol. UNC Wilmington finished at 14-4 in Conference Play and will play Hampton in the Quarterfinals of the CAA Conference Tournament on Sunday evening March 9th. The Seahawks have won 11 of their last 13 games though one of their two losses was to Hampton. I expect the Seahawks to be on the attack early and often in this game. I mean come on the Seahawks are playing the Pirates who always seem to be attacking something or someone so why should anyone be alarmed when it happens to them and not by them – lol.
William & Mary finished 11-7 in Conference Play and received the double bye in the CAA Conference Tournament. The Tribe will play their first game in the Quarterfinals of the CAA Conference Tournament when they face Delaware on Sunday afternoon 3/9. William & Mary lost at the Blue Hens in their only meeting this season. Expect a good game from both sides on Sunday afternoon with the Tribe having the advantage as this will be Delaware’s third game in three days. Someone please let William & Mary know that if they defeat the Blue Hens they will still need to win two more games to advance to the NCAA Tournament. For the Math majors out there that is also three games in three days – wait – that is correct – right?
3/2/2025
Towson finished at 16-2 in conference play and is the #1 seed in the CAA Conference Tournament which starts in Washington, DC on Friday 3/7. The Tigers will get a double bye and won’t play until Sunday 3/9 at 12pm against TBD. TBD will be a tough opponent to game plan for but the Tigers should be ready for any team in the CAA as they played a tough non-conference schedule and are battle tested. Wait - battle tested – is Towson going to war or to the CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament?
Delaware finished at 5-13 in conference play and has lost six straight games and eleven of their last twelve contests. The Blue Hens next game will be on Friday 3/7 against Stony Brook in the CAA Conference Tournament. Hopefully it’s not one and done for Delaware in but if it is that’s better than having all of the players being one and done and enter the Transfer Portal - right?
Northeastern finished 9-9 in conference play and is on a two game winning streak following their win at William & Mary on Saturday 3/1. Next up for the Huskies is a CAA Tournament Game on Saturday 3/8 in Washington, DC. The good news is that Northeastern has won two games in a row. The bad news is that after the Huskies have won two games in a row in they have immediately lost their next game – gulp. That doesn’t bode well for the Huskies chances to win the CAA Conference Tournament – right? Hofstra had a down Season for their standards finishing 6-12 in Conference Play and assured themselves of playing on Friday 3/7 in the First Round of the CAA Conference Tournament. Next up for the Pride is a matchup with North Carolina A&T in Washington, DC. The good news is Hofstra just defeated the Aggies rather easily this past Saturday 3/1. The bad news is that it is very difficult to defeat a team twice in one week. Ask any NBA Team – right?
Drexel finished at 9-9 in conference play narrowly avoiding playing in the first round of the CAA Conference Tournament on Friday 3/7. The Dragons will have to win four games in four days in Washington, DC to garner the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which is easier said than done. The only thing that would be worse would have been to have to win 5 games in 5 days which has been done before most recently by North Carolina State in 2024 in route to the Final Four. If the Dragons do accomplish this semi miracle and win the CAA Conference Tournament they should just book their flight to San Antonio for the Final Four in early April. I mean, come on even if they don’t make it to the Final Four they can still go sightseeing and see The Alamo, The River Walk, etc. – lol. Elon finished at 8-10 in Conference Play and will also need to win 4 games in 4 days to win the CAA Conference Tournament Championship. First up for the Phoenix will ironically be Drexel on Saturday 3/8 at 12pm. Elon defeated Drexel in Philadelphia in mid-January in their only meeting this season. That seems like a lifetime ago and the Phoenix will need to play a great game to defeat the Dragons again. Neither team should be looking ahead to Sunday as the winner of Saturday’s game will face top seed Towson on Sunday afternoon 3/9. Elon did hand Towson one of their two conference losses this season so the Phoenix will feel confident but need to take care of business on Saturday first. Wait – the game is being played in the nation’s capital – Washington, DC - where they take care of business every day – right?
Charleston finished at 13-5 in Conference Play and in 3rd place in the Conference Standings. The Cougars earned the double bye and won’t play their first CAA Tournament Game until Sunday evening 3/9. Charleston will be able to sleep in each day assuming they play three Conference Tournament Games as they will have the added benefit of playing the last game each night due to their seeding. Wait – is this Charleston or Dracula? I am not sure but either way they will be night owls in Washington, DC – I hope their fans are night owls as well – lol.
2/23/2025
Campbell sits at 10-6 in conference Ppay with two games remaining after losing their last two games at North Carolina A&T and against Towson respectively. The Fighting Camels finish the regular season by playing two of the toughest teams in the league in UNC Wilmington and Charleston. If Campbell can split the two games by going 1-1 that would be great. But who are we kidding – no head coach including Campbell’s Joe Smith would be happy with a split of two games or even a split of a pair of pants that he is wearing – right?
Hampton sits at 7-8 in conference play and is riding a four game winning streak. The Pirates still have three games remaining this season with their home game against Stony Brook postponed until Monday 2/24 due to the recent winter storm that passed through Virginia this past week. Hampton will face their toughest test when they travel to Towson next Saturday afternoon 3/1. It will be Senior Day for Towson and the Tigers could also be playing to win the CAA Conference regular season Title. Hampton may need a miracle to come out of TU Arena victorious. Hampton fans can dare to dream as miracles do happen but I am not sure how many have taken place in Towson, MD through the years. Does anyone else happen to know – lol. Monmouth now sits at 8-7 in conference play and has won five of their last seven games. That’s the good news. The bad news is the Hawks have to play 3 games in 6 days to finish out the CAA regular season. More good news - two of the three games are at home but the bad news is the third game is at Drexel which is in Philadelphia. I mean going to Philadelphia should be good news – think of all of the cheese steaks the Hawks can feast on while they are there – lol.
North Carolina A&T is on fire having won three of their last four games to make their Conference record 3-13 with two games remaining. Those two games will be difficult for the Aggies as they have to travel north to both Northeastern and Hofstra next Thursday 2/27 and Saturday 3/1 respectively. Well at least they aren’t going to the Northeast in January – said no one – ever – lol.
Stony Brook currently sits at 2-13 in conference play and has lost six of their last seven games. The Seawolves also have three games in six days with the most difficult contest being against Hofstra on Thursday night 2/27. The Pride and the Seawolves have an intense rivalry and there is no love lost between the two teams. The Pride will be looking for revenge having lost to the Seawolves a few weeks ago in Long Island. Wait – revenge against the Seawolves – sounds like a tough task – doesn’t it? UNC Wilmington sits at 11-4 in conference play and is staying right on the heels of the Towson Tigers with three games remaining. The Seahawks are riding a two game losing streak as they travel to William & Mary and Campbell before hosting Delaware next Saturday evening 3/1 at Trask Coliseum. If the Seahawks win all three games and Towson loses both of their remaining games they could tie the Tigers for the CAA Conference regular season title. It sounds like the Seahawks just need a little luck. I would say they could get it in Atlantic City at the MAAC Conference Tournament but wait – they are in the CAA Conference and the CAA Tournament is in Washington, DC. Darn – well – I tried to help them get a little luck – right?
William & Mary has won three games in a row and four of their last six contests. The Tribe is now 11-4 and is tied for 2nd place in the CAA Conference Standings with three games remaining before the CAA Conference Tournament next month. The Tribe has an extremely difficult final week of the Regular Season awaiting them with games against UNC Wilmington and at Towson along with a home game against Northeastern next Saturday 3/1. The good news for the Tribe is even though these are their final games before the CAA Conference Tournament they have a short trip from Williamsburg, VA to Washington, DC for the CAA Conference Tournament. The bad news is they will need to win three games in three days to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. I am not a Math Major but winning three games in three days is much harder than winning three games in six days – right?
2/16/2025
Towson sits at 11-1 in conference play and is riding a ten game winning streak after the Tigers won back-to-back home games against Delaware and Monmouth respectively. The Tigers travel to Elon and Campbell next weekend with hopes of going 2-0 on their trip to North Carolina. Towson will travel to Buies Creek next Saturday afternoon 2/22. Yes – you read that correctly – Buies Creek – not Dawson’s Creek - lol. Delaware sits at 5-9 in conference play and has lost seven of their last eight games. The Blue Hens look to get back on track this coming weekend when they host Drexel and Hofstra. Maybe Delaware just needs some home cooking to get back on track. That may be doubtful as the Blue Hens have lost three of their last four home games with the lone win being against William & Mary. That should count as two wins – right?
Northeastern is 7-7 in conference play and is on a two game winning streak following their win over Stony Brook on Saturday 2/15. Next up for the Huskies is a home game against Charleston. The Cougars will be tough to beat but could be stopped by a snowstorm that is going to hit the Northeast later this week. If the Cougars aren’t in Matthews Arena by 7pm next Thursday night 2/20 the Huskies win by forfeit – right? Probably not but Northeastern can dream of that scenario – lol. Hofstra is also 4-10 in conference play and is mired in a four game losing streak. Next up for the Pride is a home game against Monmouth on Thursday evening 2/20. The stretch run to the CAA Conference Tournament in Washington DC in early March is on as the Pride only have four games left in the Regular Season. Hofstra is meeting Monmouth for the first and only time this season this coming Thursday night in Long Island. The Pride hope to finish the season strong and if they do they may see the Hawks again in Washington, DC in a few weeks. Wait – see them in Washington, DC – are both teams sightseeing in the nation’s capital at the same time?
Drexel sits at 5-9 in conference play and losers of five if their last six games. The Dragons now head to Delaware on Thursday evening 2/20 before coming home to face Charleston on Saturday 2/22 at 12pm. The latter game will be televised live on CBSSN. Charleston will be tough to beat but the Dragons may get lucky as they play the Cougars at 12pm in a somewhat early tip time for a CAA conference game. Who knows – maybe the Cougars will sleep in that morning – right? Elon sits at 7-7 in Conference play after a big road win at UNC Wilmington on Saturday 2/15. The Phoenix now host Towson and William & Mary on Thursday 2/20 and Saturday 2/22 respectively. Towson is currently on a ten game winning streak and William & Mary is having a great season as well. The Phoenix will need their home crowd to cheer them on. I mean unless North Carolina is playing Duke on Thursday evening or Saturday evening there should be plenty of CBB fans to attend both games as UNC and Duke being the BlueBloods that they are are the only true CBB Programs in North Carolina – says who – lol.
Charleston sits at 10-4 and is tied for 3rd place in the conference standings with William & Mary and Campbell. The Cougars travel to Northeastern and Drexel on Thursday 2/20 and Saturday 2/22 respectively. Their game at Drexel will be broadcast live on CBSSN. They may encounter a snowstorm when heading to the Northeast this coming weekend. If they do they better bring boots as they don’t want to mess up their basketball sneakers before they play – or do they – lol.
2/9/2025
Campbell sits at 8-3 in conference play and is riding a 6 game winning streak. The Fighting Camels host North Carolina A&T on Monday night 2/10 before heading on a three game road trip. Even though Campbell’s game against the Aggies this coming Monday night is on CBSSN viewership may be very low. I mean come on - the majority of sports viewers think there isn’t another sporting event until September after the Super Bowl on Sunday evening 2/9 - lol.
Hampton sits at 4-8 in conference play and has won two of their last three contests including an overtime victory over Howard in a Non-Conference game. The Pirates can do some damage with their next four games at home before ending the Regular Season with a two game road trip. Wait – the Pirates doing damage? Their opponents may get scared visiting the Convocation Center in the next few weeks unless they think there is hidden treasure there – right? Monmouth now sits at 6-6 in Conference Play and has won three of their last four games. That’s the good news. The bad news is their lone loss in that stretch was at home to Towson on Saturday afternoon 2/8 and they have to travel to Towson next Saturday 2/15 to play the Tigers again. In other good news Valentine’s Day is this coming Friday 2/14 and the Hawks don’t play a game that day after playing at Stony Brook on Thursday evening 2/13 so the players will have time to spend time with their significant others even if not in person. I mean who are we kidding – all Gen Zers’ use Facetime/Tik Tok, etc. – right?
North Carolina A&T is still seeking their first win in Conference play after losing a close one at Charleston last Thursday evening 2/6. The Aggies travel to Campbell on Monday night 2/10 to face the Fighting Camels in Buies Creek. The Aggies have suffered three losses by one possession this season and hope to steal one on the road. It will be tough for the Aggies to steal anything on Monday night as the game will be broadcast on CBSSN so everyone will be able to witness the theft – lol.
Stony Brook currently sits at 2-10 in conference play and broke a three game losing streak with a win at Hofstra on Saturday 2/8. The Seawolves next two games will be broadcast on CBSSN including their home game against Monmouth which tips at 5pm on Thursday 2/13. I know Jon Rothstein has been begging for 5pm start times for college basketball games on weeknights but he must not realize that there won’t be any fans in attendance as they will all be stuck in in New York traffic at 5pm on a Thursday. Wait – Jon Rothstein said people in bars and restaurants would watch during happy hour so there is that – right?
UNC Wilmington sits at 10-2 in conference lay and is staying right on the heels of the Towson Tigers with 6 games remaining. The Seahawks are riding an eight game winning streak as they welcome Charleston to Trask Coliseum this Thursday evening 2/13 in a game that will be broadcast on CBSSN. Charleston will be looking for revenge from their 85-83 loss to UNC Wilmington in late January. The Cougars aren’t the only ones seeking revenge on the Seahawks as most gamblers have been waiting just over 10 years for revenge on the Seahawks for losing Super Bowl 49 by not running the ball at the end of the game. Better late than never – hopefully - right?
William & Mary has dropped three of their last four games with their lone win at home over Charleston. The Tribe is now 8-4 and is in 6th place in the CAA Conference Standings with 6 games remaining before the CAA Tournament next month. William & Mary is still one of the original 3 Division 1 Teams not to make the NCAA Tournament. Could this finally be the year the Tribe gets to experience March Madness? I am sure they will be able to experience March Madness this year even if they don’t make the NCAA Tournament as there are so many office pools, watch parties, and social events revolving around the Tournament they will surely be able to get involved somehow – lol.
2/2/205
Towson sits at 9-1 in conference play and is riding an eight game winning streak after the Tigers won at Delaware and at home against Drexel the last two games respectively. The Tigers next travel to Stony Brook and Monmouth next weekend with hopes of going 2-0 on their trip to the Tri State Area. It will be difficult but not impossible as Towson is the Tigers and all they have to do is defeat the Seawolves and the Hawks – and not even at the same time – lol. Delaware sits at 4-6 in conference play and is mired in a four game losing streak. The Blue Hens look to get back on track next weekend when they host UNC Wilmington and William & Mary. Wait I’m confused - are they playing two opponents next weekend or three?
Northeastern is 4-6 in conference and just finished a tough week losing two of their three games with their lone win coming at Hampton. They have two games next weekend which include a road game at Hofstra on Thursday evening 2/6 and a home game against Hampton on Saturday afternoon 2/8. Considering the Huskies just defeated the Pirates they will be happy to have them visit next Saturday. They just better hide all of their valuables before the Pirates show up – get it? Hofstra is also 4-6 in conference play after their loss at Campbell on Saturday afternoon 2/1. Next up for the Pride are home games against Northeastern and Stony Brook next Thursday 2/6 and Saturday 2/8 respectively. The stretch run to the CAA Conference tournament in Washington DC in early March is on as the Pride only have eight games left in the regular season. Hofstra better get things back on track quickly or else their season may be lost as well as their “Pride” or what’s left of it – lol.
Drexel also sits at 4-6 in conference after losing a heartbreaker at Towson on Saturday night. The Dragons now head home to face William & Mary and UNC Wilmington on Thursday 2/6 and Saturday 2/8 respectively. The latter game will be televised live on CBSSN. The Dragons hope for better luck after they lost the Towson game by one point and that game was also broadcast on CBSSN. Drexel better hope they don’t have a CBSSN jinx as the semifinals and final of the CAA Basketball Tournament are broadcast live on CBSSN. Well the Dragons need to get there first. I mean everyone of their CAA opponents wants to slay the Dragons – get it?
Elon sits at 6-4 in conference play after defeating Northeastern on Saturday 2/1. The Phoenix now play three of their next four games on the road with short trips to Campbell, Charleston, and UNC Wilmington in the next few weeks with a home game against North Carolina A&T sandwiched in on Thursday evening 2/13. If Elon can finish strong they may be able to earn the double bye in the CAA conference tournament which means the Phoenix would only have to win three games in three days to get the conference’s automatic bid and advance to the NCAA Tournament. I mean things could be worse – Elon could have to win four games in four days or five games in five days. That is worse – right?
Charleston sits at 7-2 and is tied for 3rd place in the conference standings with William & Mary. The Cougars travel to William & Mary on Monday evening 2/3 to take on the Tribe. Charleston has won 4 of their last 5 games but can’t overlook the Tribe. Who knows the “Tribe” and their fans may prove to be too much for the Cougars. The only question is how many players are in a Tribe – right?
1/26/2025
Campbell sits at 5-3 in conference Ppay after an overtime victory at Hofstra this past Saturday 1/25. Next up for the Fighting Camels is a home game against William & Mary this Thursday night 1/30. The Tribe come in with a 7-1 conference record and will be tough to beat. Campbell will definitely have their hands full in this game. I mean they are facing the Tribe. Who are we kidding – how many players does William & Mary plan on putting on the court at one time – lol.
Hampton got a big win at North Carolina A&T this past Monday evening 1/20 but then proceeded to drop their next two games. The Pirates look to get back on track this Thursday evening when they host Northeastern. Considering the game is in Virginia and not in Boston both teams won’t have to worry about the weather being a factor – or will they? Monmouth sits at 3-5 in conference play but is currently mired in a three game losing streak. The good news is the Hawks have their next four games at home including a tough game on Saturday afternoon 2/8 at 4pm against Towson which will be televised on CBSSN. Roy Williams recently gave a speech to the Monmouth players as head coach King Rice played for the Tar Heels from 1988-1991. The only question is can Coach Roy check to see if any of King Rice’s old teammates have any eligibility remaining – I mean the Hawks could sure use them – right?
North Carolina A&T looks to turn things around when they host UNC Wilmington this Thursday night 1/30. The Aggies are currently riding an eight game losing streak and may need some luck to get back on the winning track. It’s possible the Seahawks overlook the Aggies as they have several tough games following their trip to Greensboro. Wait – Greensboro – is this a CAA conference game or an ACC Tournament Game?
Stony Brook currently sits at 1-7 in conference play after picking up their first victory when they defeated North Carolina A&T this past Saturday 1/25. The Seawolves hope to build on that momentum when they travel to both Charleston and UNC Wilmington next Thursday 1/30 and Saturday 2/1 respectively. Stony Brook will need a miracle to win both games but may be able to steal one if they catch either team off guard. The only questions are off guard – which guard and on which team?
UNC Wilmington is currently riding a four game winning streak but have three of their next four conference games on the road with the lone home game being against Stony Brook next Saturday 2/1. The Seahawks are currently tied for 3rd place in the conference standings with Charleston and have a home date with the Cougars on Thursday evening 2/13. UNC Wilmington needs to focus on the task at hand though as several tough CAA opponents await them including the Seawolves, Blue Hens, and Dragons. Well at least it’s not the Lions, Tigers, and Bears – right – lol.
William & Mary is still in 1st place in the CAA with a conference record of 7-1. The Tribe is riding a two game winning streak and is back on track after a tough loss to UNC Wilmington on MLK Day. William & Mary also has three of their next four games on the road with their lone home game being against Charleston next Monday evening 2/3. At least they visit Drexel and Delaware prior to the Super Bowl as if any Eagles fans are in attendance at either game they may still be sober and not ready to fight – at least not yet anyway – right?
1/19/2025
Towson sits at 5-1 in conference play and is riding a four game winning streak after the Tigers defeated Hofstra and Stony Brook the last two games respectively. The Tigers next host North Carolina A&T before they travel to Northeastern on Monday evening 1/27 in a game which will be broadcast on CBSSN. I don’t know what’s going to be more difficult for the Tigers to defeat – Northeastern or the weather – lol. Delaware sits at 4-2 in conference and has won four of its last five games. The Blue Hens now travel to Hofstra and Drexel next weekend. A split of the two games would be a great result for Delaware. Wait – did you say a Split or a Banana Split – that is absolutely going to get someone’s attention – right?
Northeastern is 2-4 in the CAA and has lost four of their last five games. The Huskies just lost two close games at UNC Wilmington and Charleston this past weekend respectively. Hopefully the Huskies don’t look at the weather forecast before they travel back to Boston. That may be the only thing worse than their recent four game road trip - lol. Hofstra has had an uneven start to the season as the Pride sit at 2-3 after 5 games. Hofstra’s next game is at Drexel on MLK Day at 3pm and will be broadcast live on CBSSN. The good news is the Presidential Inauguration is also on Monday so there is a good chance very few people will see the game, and if the Pride win or lose – lol.
Drexel also sits at 2-3 in conference play but has three games in six days starting on Monday 1/20. The Dragons face Hofstra and Delaware at home with a game at Northeastern sandwiched in between. If Drexel can win two of their upcoming three games then they will be right back in the hunt for the CAA regular season championship. If not then it may be a long season for the Dragons. The good news is if they win four games in four days in Washington, DC in March they can win the CAA Conference Tournament. Who are we kidding – if they can’t win three games in six days then how are they possibly going to win four games in four days. Even I can do simple math – lol.
Elon sits at 4-2 in conference play after losing a nail biter on the road at Delaware 79-77 on Saturday 1/18. The Phoenix can now get comfortable at home as they play their next four games in the friendly confines of the Schar Center where they have only lost once all season. Hopefully Elon can use their home court advantage to win four straight games to move to 8-2 in the conference. I don’t know what would be better – Elon winning the CAA regular season title or the Phoenix talking trash to North Carolina and Duke about being the best team in the Triangle this season – right?
Charleston sits at 5-1 and is tied for 2nd place in the conference standings. The Cougars host UNC Wilmington this coming Thursday night 1/23 in what will be their first of two meetings with the Seahawks. Wait – I thought the Seahawks played in the NFL and on the West Coast. The Cougars better be ready to block this week – get it – lol.
1/12/2025
Campbell sits at 2-1 in conference play after a victory at Hampton this past Thursday evening 1/9. The Fighting Camels have their shortest road trip of the season for their next conference game as they travel to Elon on Monday night 1/13. It will be broadcast live on CBSSN at 9pm. The problem is the NFL Playoffs are also on Monday Night. I would say that the attendance at the game will be lackluster but the Carolina Panthers didn’t make the NFL Playoffs or did they?
Hampton defeated Delaware 83-77 to halt a three game losing streak. The Pirates now face William & Mary before going on the road to face North Carolina A&T and then William & Mary again. Wait – is the second game of the Pirates road trip against William or Mary – lol. Monmouth embarks on a four game road trip after a big home win over Charleston. The Hawks don’t arrive back home until Thursday evening 1/30. The good news is that all of their road games are in North Carolina and Virginia which usually means semi warm weather in January. The bad news is with climate control and the irregular weather these days it may be much colder in the South than usual. Monmouth will be lucky not to get snowed in on their road trip and not make it back home – right?
North Carolina A&T has lost 12 of their last 13 games with their lone victory coming over North Carolina Central in late December. The Aggies may be able to pull the upset next Thursday night 1/16 when they host Monmouth who also has only won four games this season as well. It will be difficult but the Aggies can’t possibly go winless in conference play this season can they? I mean the Detroit Lions went winless in 2007 in the NFL in a 16 game season but even they are good this season – right?
Stony Brook currently sits at 0-4 in conference play with the dreaded weekend trip to Delaware and Towson upcoming next weekend. The Seawolves need to find a way to get a win and may need some luck. Unfortunately they don’t play the Fighting Irish this Season. The Seawolves next best chance to get in the win column may be against North Carolina A&T on Saturday 1/25 as the game tips off at 12pm. Who knows maybe the Aggies will sleep in and miss the opening tip – lol. UNC Wilmington is 2-2 in conference play so far but could be 4-0 as the Seahawks lost an overtime game to Towson in their conference opener and then suffered a three point defeat at Hofstra on Saturday afternoon 1/11. A pair of home games await next weekend for the Seahawks as they host Northeastern and William & Mary over the long MLK Day Weekend. Can the Seahawks avoid taking a trip to the beach over the long holiday weekend to focus on basketball and their upcoming opponents? Who knows as the UNC Wilmington players may think it is a way early Spring Break – right?
William & Mary is riding a 5 game winning streak and is the only team that is undefeated in conference play. The Tribe is 4-0 with their next two games on the road at Hampton and UNC Wilmington. The game at UNC Wilmington is at 1pm on MLK Day and will be broadcast on CBSSN. Can the Tribe return home to play Hampton on Thursday evening 1/23 with a 6-0 conference record? They definitely can if they can persuade the Pirates to tame the Seahawks – get it – lol.
1/5/2025
Towson returns home with a split of their 1st two conference games winning against UNC Wilmington, but losing to Charleston. The Tigers next opponent is Northeastern on Thursday evening 1/9. Yes – they play Northeastern – the school in Boston – not the storm – that is a Nor’easter – lol. Delaware sits at 1-1 in conference play after a 20 point victory over Monmouth on Saturday 1/4. The Blue Hens now travel to play back-to-back games at North Carolina A&T and Hampton. If Delaware wins both of those games their overall record will be 10-7 which should be good enough to get them into the NFL Playoffs. Wait – wrong sport – sorry Blue Hen fans.
Northeastern also sits at 1-1 after two Conference Games with their last game being a 55-37 loss at home to Hofstra. The Huskies now head on the road for the next four games including the dreaded trip to play both UNC Wilmington and Charleston on MLK Weekend. At least it will be warm for Northeastern when they head south in a few weeks – right? Hofstra is coming off a big win over the aforementioned Huskies in Boston as the Pride were able to hold Northeastern to 37 total points. Next up for Hofstra is Charleston and the Cougars are 2-0 in conference play thus far. It’s highly unlikely the Cougars overlook Hofstra as their following game is against Monmouth and the Hawks have only won three games all season. Anything is possible though right? I mean it must be if Hofstra and Monmouth both defeated Seton Hall already this season. Seton Hall is still a Big East team – correct?
Drexel picked up their first conference win by defeating North Carolina A&T on Saturday 1/4. The Dragons now go on the road to Stony Brook before they have three straight home games including a home game against Towson on Saturday afternoon 1/11. Yes – Towson. Seinfeld fans will remember that Elaine Benes was from Towson. She didn’t happen to play basketball though or did she?
Elon sits at 2-0 in conference play after wins over both North Carolina A&T and Hampton. The Phoenix now travel to William & Mary to play the Tribe on Thursday evening 1/9. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. That means Jon Rothstein and Gary Parrish will both be at the game – right? If not we at least know William and Mary will be there – lol. Charleston sits at 2-0 in conference play after back-to-back home wins over Hampton and Towson. The Cougars now go on the road for their next three games including a road game at Campbell on Thursday evening 1/16. The Fighting Camels are 1-1 in conference play and are led by Jasin Sinani and Colby Duggan. Is Colby Duggan in any way related to Hacksaw Jim Duggan – the WWE Legend? If so watch out as he may be carrying a two by four with him in warm-ups and could use it if things get out of hand. The referees should be on red alert as well – but who are we kidding – nobody at a college basketball game would ever be mad at the referees for making a bad call – gulp.
12/28/2024
Campbell sits at 5-7 with 1 game left before conference play begins in early January. That game is in Chapel Hill against perennial power North Carolina. The Dean Dome will be rocking with Tar Heel fans so the Fighting Camels better bring their “A” game if they want to leave the Smith Center with a victory. Easier said than done. Who knows maybe the Fighting Camels can catch the Tar Heels on an off night. I mean – Campbell may have put a victory over North Carolina on their Christmas List. With the game being on Sunday evening 12/29 even jolly old Santa won’t be able to grant them their wish – well – maybe in 2025 – lol.
Hampton has won four straight as they also have one game remaining before conference play begins. The Pirates host Howard as the Bison are an old rival from when the Pirates played in the MEAC. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS and Paramount Plus. That’s great news for both HBCU’s. The bad news is most fans don’t have Paramount Plus – Just ESPN Plus, FS1, Big Ten Network, etc.
Monmouth just got their 2nd victory of the season as the Hawks defeated Fairfield on Saturday 12/21. I can say with almost certainty that they won’t be getting their 3rd victory when they travel to Auburn on Monday evening 12/30 to face the #2 Team in the nation. Hopefully the Hawks can cover the spread but even that may be too much to ask – but miracles do happen – or do they? North Carolina A&T sits at 3-10 as the Aggies get ready to host North Carolina Central in the 1st game of the HBCU doubleheader. A rough start to the season couldn’t get any worse could it? Yes – sadly most of the Aggies fans don’t realize they are the only CAA Team that is in last place in the conference with an 0-1 record courtesy of their loss at Hampton on Tuesday evening 12/3. The good news is they get a rematch against Hampton on Monday evening 1/20 – MLK Day – and the game is at 9pm and will be broadcast on CBSSN. Aggie fans are still waiting to hear the good news – lol.
Stony Brook currently sits at 4-8 as the Seawolves just defeated Maine on Saturday 12/21. The Seawolves final game prior to conference play starting in January is at UAlbany on Sunday afternoon 12/29. It is going to be unseasonably warm in Albany the next few days. Now the Stony Brook coaches and players only need to bring one coat on the trip instead of two – correct? UNC Wilmington is 9-3 and hosts Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday afternoon 12/28 in their final tuneup before conference play begins on Thursday evening 1/2. Spartanburg Methodist is a school with a basketball team – I thought it was a church – didn’t everyone think the same thing? William & Mary also has one final contest before conference play begins as the Tribe host Navy on Sunday afternoon 12/29. The Midshipmen have had a rough start to the season but are a dangerous team. Just ask Army – and it doesn’t matter which Army sports team - lol.
12/21/2024
Towson hopes to break a six game losing streak when they host Bryant in their last game prior to conference play beginning in early January. If Towson happens to lose to the Bulldogs it will be their 7th straight loss. Wait, I thought seven was a lucky number. I guess not if it means seven straight defeats lol. Delaware sits at 7-5 after losing a road game at St. Peter’s a few days ago. The Blue Hens last game prior to conference play is at St. John’s on Saturday evening, 12/28. The game will be played at Carnesecca Arena not Madison Square Garden. Since MSG is the World’s Most Famous Arena does that mean that Carnesecca Arena is the World’s 2nd Most Famous Arena? Northeastern is 6-4 after a tough loss to UMass this past week. The Huskies have some time off before travelling to Northwestern on Sunday afternoon 12/29 for a game against the Wildcats. I know this upcoming game between Northeastern and Northwestern isn’t a rivalry game but it sounds like it should be for some type of bragging rights. Maybe The Battle of the North? Unfortunately the game is on Peacock so no one will see it anyway.
Hofstra hopes their long break helps them to regroup as the Pride will have two full weeks off prior to their game next Sunday afternoon 12/29 at Quinnipiac. The Bobcats are a solid team this season and are 3-1 at home so far. Quinnipiac plays their home games at M&T Bank Arena so if any of the Hofstra players need NIL money they can just find an ATM in the Arena and make a quick withdrawal – right?
Drexel is 8-5 after losing a tough game to Penn State at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Dragons were probably surprised to lose to the Nittany Lions due to the Penn State football team playing in the College Football Playoff on Saturday afternoon. I mean Drexel probably thought the Nittany Lions either wouldn’t show up or would be distracted by the football game that was taking place at the same time. I guess nobody told the Penn State basketball team that Penn State was first and foremost a football school – right? Elon currently sits at 8-4 with one more game remaining in December as the Phoenix host Marshall next Saturday evening 12/28. The Phoenix are a perfect 4-0 at home so far this season and should have a solid home crowd on hand even though the students are on Winter Break. I mean unless Duke is hosting North Carolina at Cameron Indoor Stadium then every diehard college basketball fan should be at the Schar Center next Saturday night. They should be but you never know as there is probably some big event at the Greensboro Coliseum or Taylor Swift may be in town.
Charleston is riding a four game winning streak as the Cougars head to Hawaii for 3 games in four days against stiff competition. Their first game is against Oregon State. The Beavers still play in the Pac 12 -right? Or is it the Big Ten or the ACC? Who cares, the game is in Honolulu, HI and all eight teams in the tournament will be enjoying the warm weather and the beach.
12/14/2024
Campbell sits at 5-5 with 3 games left before conference play begins in early January. The Fighting Camels have several tough upcoming games including a home one against Longwood on Wednesday evening 12/18. Yes a game against Longwood not Longmire – the sheriff from Wyoming. Hampton has won two straight as they also have three games remaining before conference play begins. The Pirates play at Loyola in their lone road game prior to early January. No – not Loyola Chicago but Loyola Maryland. For all of the knowledgeable CBB fans – Sister Jean won’t be in attendance at the game. Monmouth finally got their first victory on Thanksgiving weekend at Seton Hall. The Hawks may not get their next victory until CAA play starts in January as they face two tough games including one at Auburn on Monday evening 12/30. Like they say – Welcome to the Jungle – the only question is will Axel Rose and Slash from Guns N Roses be at the game that night singing the song in person – lol. North Carolina A&T is currently on a 6 game losing streak and things don’t get any easier as the Aggies have several tough upcoming games. The most difficult contest may come on Saturday afternoon 12/28 when the Aggies host North Carolina Central which is an old rival from when both teams played in the MEAC Conference. I assume Christmas cards won’t be exchanged between these two teams before or after this contest – correct?
Stony Brook currently sits at 3-7 having just broken a 5 game losing streak with a victory over Rider. The Seawolves face a pair of America East Teams prior to CAA play in Maine and UAlbany. The good news is the Seawolves play Maine at home, but they must travel to UAlbany on Saturday afternoon 12/29. Hopefully they bring their snow shovels with them as UAlbany might get a blizzard that weekend. At least then if the game gets postponed or cancelled Stony Brook can say they didn’t lose – right? UNC Wilmington stands at 7-3 after a tough loss to Howard in Washington, DC. The Seahawks don’t have to go on the road again until the 2nd week of January when they travel to Monmouth and then Hofstra. Hopefully the players get a lot of home cooking around the holidays. I mean the Eagles and Bulldogs are both visiting UNC Wilmington prior to Christmas and will be looking to feast – the Seawolves just need to leave plenty of Christmas cookies in the visiting locker room to distract each teams’ coaches and players. William & Mary returns from their exam break to host Richmond and then travel to VCU prior to Christmas. A pair of Atlantic 10 opponents is a good appetizer for the main course which is CAA Conference Play which begins in New York against Hofstra and Stony Brook. The Tribe should be mad at the CAA for delaying the start of conference games until early January. If it wasn’t for the CAA, the Tribe could experience Christmas in New York – wait – aren’t Hofstra and Stony Brook in Long Island? Is Long Island anywhere near New York – lol.
12/8/2024
Towson sits at 3-4 after four straight losses including losing all three games at the Western Slam in Lethbridge, Alberta in Canada over Thanksgiving weekend. The good news is the Tigers are back in the United States for the rest of the season. The bad news is Towson has already committed to the Atlantic/Eastern Slam next season which is in New Brunswick, Canada which last time I checked is rather cold in late November. Delaware has won 3 of their last four contests with their only loss coming to Duquesne. The Blue Hens next two games are at home with the latter game being at 11am on Tuesday morning 12/17. Will fans be able to purchase beer at that game? Hopefully not as we all know how rowdy UD fans can get but if they start drinking before noon then anything can happen – right?
Northeastern is coming off a big win over LaSalle earlier this week to return to winning ways. Their next opponent is Colgate. The Huskies take on the Raiders in Boston. I can already hear the trash talk on the court between the two teams arguing over which arena is colder – Matthews Arena or William A. Reid Athletic Center. My answer is they are both freezing – just let the teams play the game outdoors – right? Hofstra is currently 7-3 and only has three more games prior to the start of CAA Conference play in early January. The Pride’s next home game is on Sunday afternoon 12/15 at 12pm vs. Temple. You would think they would play the game later in the day so both teams can go to Sunday morning mass – especially Temple – right?
Drexel is 6-4 as the Dragons enter mid-December. Their next road game is at Howard University in Washington, DC. Who knows maybe Vice President Kamala Harris will be in attendance at her alma mater on Tuesday afternoon 12/17. Drexel may want to lose the game as if they don’t they will probably have to listen to a lengthy speech from the current VP. The topic of the speech may be climate control and that the Dragons should bus to all of their future games on the East Coast to save the planet. I mean come on how many trips does Air Force One make a month – lol. Elon is having a solid season so far and is in for some home cooking in December with only one more road game until January which is at East Tennessee State on Wednesday evening 12/18. The Phoenix will travel to Johnson City, TN to face the Buccaneers. I swore Johnson City, TN was a made up place but apparently it is real. The game is live on ESPN Plus that night so it must not have been a dream I had.
Charleston is 6-2 as Chris Mack’s team is gaining momentum with each passing game. The Cougars face a tough test this coming week when they travel to Saint Joseph’s in Philadelphia for a tough non-conference game. Hagan Arena is a hard place to play. The atmosphere is intense and the mascot for the university is the Hawk who flaps his wings non-stop throughout every basketball game. I mean even the players get a halftime break, but the Hawk doesn’t. Being the Hawk sounds like a very difficult job – he has to get some NIL money – doesn’t he?
11/29/2024
Campbell enters the final weekend of November with a record of 3-4 and finishes the month with a game at Green Bay. Don’t worry as even though it is a 1pm game it’s not against the Packers so the Fighting Camels at least get to play indoors. Hampton looks to get back to winning ways as they enter December. The Pirates first opportunity is their opening Conference Game against North Carolina A&T. Yes – their opponent is North Carolina A&T – not AT&T. Monmouth is still searching for their first victory this season and the schedule doesn’t get much easier as they enter December. The Hawks best bet for a win might come against Fairfield right before Christmas. They should be able to garner victory if Fairfield plays fair – right – lol. North Carolina A&T sits at 3-3 as the Aggies enter December with several difficult road games looming. Their toughest test might come right before Christmas when they travel to Fayetteville to take on John Calipari and Arkansas. Yes – that is right Fayetteville, Arkansas not Fayetteville, North Carolina so it will be a flight and not a short car ride.
Stony Brook enters December looking to return to winning ways after 3 straight losses. The Seawolves do have to fly to Frisco, TX to take on Air Force on Saturday 12/7. Wait, if they are flying to Texas to play Air Force can a stipulation be put in place that if Stony Brook beats Air Force the Falcons must fly the entire Seawolves team back to Long Island. That sounds fair – right? UNC Wilmington has had a solid start to the season so far as the Seahawks currently sit at 4-2. Things get more difficult for UNC Wilmington in December with several road games looming including a trip to Howard on Saturday 12/14. What will be more difficult - beating the Howard Bison or getting to the game before Tip-Off? We all know how horrendous DC traffic is around the Holidays. William & Mary has had an uneven start to the season as the Tribe stands at 3-5. William & Mary only has 5 games in December and more time to prepare. That will bode well for them especially when they host Navy in late December in Williamsburg. Navy is always well prepared – it could be said they are always ready for war – right?
11/24/2024
Towson sits at 3-2 after back-to-back wins over James Madison and Nicholls this past week. The Tigers next three contests are against Morgan State, Kent State, and Kennesaw State. Wait, what? Well at least the Tigers opponent on Saturday 11/30 is UC Irvine. I was thinking it had to be ?? State – right? Delaware just lost back-to-back contests by a total of 5 points to Bryant and Vermont. The Blue Hens reward is a game against Yale on a Neutral Court. That’s a tough turnaround for Delaware and after their loss they won’t have much time to study which puts them at a disadvantage as everyone knows the Yale players don’t need to study. Northeastern has a 5-1 record after four straight wins including wins over Florida International and Florida Gulf Coast. Their reward is a game against Cal State Bakersfield but it should be a trip to the Beach – shouldn’t it? Hofstra is coming off a pair of road losses to Power 5 opponents Florida State and Houston. The Pride still sit at 4-2 and get an entire week off to enjoy the Thanksgiving Break and some good food. They return to the court to take on Rice on Black Friday. Who wants Rice – I am sure they would rather have Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, etc.
Drexel is back on track as the Dragons followed two straight losses to Big Five opponents with two straight victories. The Dragons now get Purdue Fort Wayne on Monday on a Neutral Court. That’s good news as Drexel might be in trouble if they had to deal with John Wayne but they should be okay against Purdue Fort Wayne. Elon is having a great start to the season as the Phoenix most recently defeated Notre Dame in South Bend. Ironically the Phoenix defeated Northern Illinois prior to defeating the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame couldn’t beat the Huskies in football – could they beat them in basketball – probably not. Charleston lost their first game of the season last Sunday evening against Liberty. It stinks the Cougars lost but they were probably exhausted after outlasting Florida Atlantic two days prior by defeating the Owls 119-116 in 2OT. I can imagine how tired Charleston must have been. I mean I am getting tired just thinking about it.
11/17/2024
Campbell has had an uneven start to the season as the Fighting Camels sit at 2-2 . They did win their season opener at home against Pfeiffer. Wait – Pfeiffer – wasn’t he Fred Savage’s friend on The Wonder Years TV Show? I didn’t know he could play basketball. Hampton sits at 1-3 after 4 games. The Pirates do have an upcoming game against Apprentice School in a few weeks so hopefully they can learn a few things during that game even if they don’t come away with a win. Monmouth is off to a rough start this season as the Hawks sit at 0-4 with losses to Michigan State and Rutgers already. The Hawks best chance for a win in November may come at Seton Hall on Saturday 11/30. All they may have to do is score more than 28 points which is what Wagner put up against the Pirates yesterday. Yes – more than 28 points – not in a Half but in the entire game – lol. North Carolina A&T is 1-2 after back-to-back road defeats. The Aggies do have several road games in the coming weeks with the most glaring being a game at Buffalo on Monday 11/25. A trip north to Buffalo in late November is rough, but at least their game against the Bulls is indoors – hopefully - right?
Stony Brook is 2-2 with their next three games against Ivy League opponents. The Seawolves better hit the books in more ways than one to pull off a three game sweep. At least their games at Columbia and Brown are over the Thanksgiving Break. I am sure even Ivy League players take a slight break from studying over the long holiday weekend – right? UNC Wilmington is off to a hot start as the Seahawks are 3-0. Their reward is a trip to #1 Kansas to play the Jayhawks in Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. The good news is that the game is on ESPN+ instead of one of the other ESPN channels so the majority of CBB fans won’t see the bludgeoning. William & Mary has already played 5 games this season and will play again on 11/17 against Georgia Southern. Looking ahead to December, the Tribe takes a short trip to VCU to play the Rams on Sunday afternoon 12/22. The Tribe better be prepared for that game as “A VCU home game at the Siegel Center is more life altering than a 10-day trip to Europe.” – Jon Rothstein That leads me to my next question – when did Jon Rothstein go to Europe?
11/9/2024
Towson travelled 3,000 miles just to lose to St. Mary’s on Opening night. Then the Tigers got back home just in time to beat Penn State Wilkes-Barre by 55 points. Imagine if Penn State Wilkes-Barre had Michael Jordan who could have chipped in 55 points without even breaking a sweat. Delaware split a pair of Home Games this week losing to Bucknell, but defeating Robert Morris. Wait – Robert Morris is a team and not just one person? Northeastern opened the campaign with a victory on the road over Boston University. Next up for the Huskies are back-to-back home games against Princeton and Harvard. Even if Northeastern loses the next two games they can at least say they lost to smart opponents even if the teams aren’t talented – right? Hofstra is off to a hot start with two wins to start the season. The Pride take on Seton Hall in their 3rd game of the season this coming Wednesday night at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale. Word is the Islanders get to play the winner later that night. That can’t be correct - right?
Drexel is off to a 2-0 start as well and faces two Big 5 opponents this coming week with a game at Temple on Tuesday night followed by a home tilt against LaSalle next Saturday afternoon. The bad news is both games will be very difficult. The good news is Drexel saves a lot of money on gas this week with the lite travel. Heck if they played at Penn this season they could walk to the game – literally. Elon gave North Carolina fits on opening night before succumbing to the Tar Heels. The Phoenix do get a slight reprieve this season as UNC is only one of two ACC Teams they play. The other is Notre Dame and everyone knows the Fighting Irish only care about Football until at least early Spring. Charleston is off to another good start as the Cougars won both their games so far this season. New Head Coach Chris Mack is back in coaching and has replaced Pat Kelsey who left for Louisville. Wait – didn’t Chris Mack used to be the head coach at Louisville and Pat Kelsey the head coach at Charleston? Was this another remake of the movie Freaky Friday?
